The World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) has announced the results of the KBO Draft.
The WBSC announced the results of the 2024 KBO League Draft, which took place on April 14, on its official website.
The WBSC reported that “Korea U-18 National Team players, including All-World Team relief pitcher Kim Tae-yeon and shortstop Park Ji-hwan, have signed professional contracts.
Notably, “six players who led Korea to the bronze medal in the first round were selected,” the WBSC said. The Korean U-18 team, led by Lee Young-bok (Chungam-Go), won its first bronze medal in four years after defeating the United States 4-0 at the WBSC World Youth Baseball Championship on Tuesday.
Six players who contributed to the team’s first bronze medal in four years were selected in the first round of the KBO Draft.
Starting with Hwang Jun-seo (Jang Chung-go), who went to the Hanwha Eagles with the first pick of the first round, Kim Taek-yeon (Incheon) was selected by the Doosan Bears, Jeon Mir (Gyeongbuk) was selected by the Lotte Giants, Yuk Sun-yeop (Jang Chung-go) by the Samsung Lions, Cho Dae-hyun (Gangneung) by the KT Wiz, and finally, Park Ji-hwan (Se AD) by the SSG Landers.
Left-hander Hwang Jun-seo, the No. 1 overall pick, made two starts against Taiwan on April 2 and the United States on April 8. He pitched 12.1 innings and posted a 3.97 ERA. In his relief appearance against Mexico on May 5, Hwang struck out six in 5.1 innings of work and allowed just one hit.
Kim pitched six games in relief, allowing just one run in 16 innings. His best performance came in the bronze medal game against the United States, when he tossed a seven-inning no-hitter. He earned All-World Team honors as the tournament’s top reliever. “Right-hander Kim Tae-yeon, nominated by Doosan, made the most significant contribution to Korea’s bronze medal victory,” the WBSC said.
In a Lotte uniform, right-hander Jeon Mir pitched 4.1 innings in five games at the U-18 World Cup. He earned a save against the Netherlands on Sept. 9.
Samsung right-hander Yuk Sun-yeop started and pitched 6.1 innings in the opening game against Australia, earning the win. He pitched 3.2 innings in the Super Round against the Netherlands, allowing just one hit.
Right-hander Cho Dae-hyun, who was selected by KT, pitched 0.2 scoreless innings against the Czech Republic. 메이저사이트
