Kyle Walker has opened up about why he signed a new contract with Manchester City.

“Walker has signed a new contract with us, keeping him with us until the summer of 2026,” the club said on its website on Friday. He has played a key role at the club over the past six years. By signing this new contract, Walker has extended his stay at City for a further two years.”

Walker is considered one of the best full-backs in England. At over 6-foot-2, he has solid physicality and uses his explosive pace to make an impact down the flanks. He uses this to get involved in the attack, and even when he is exposed in the back, he uses his pace to cover quickly. His defensive qualities also allow him to play as a stopper in the back three, and he’s adapted perfectly to the inverted wing-back role under Pep Guardiola.

He came up through the Sheffield United youth ranks before breaking out at Tottenham Hotspur. He played from 2009 to 2017 and was a key part of Mauricio Pochettino’s system. He had great chemistry with Son Heung-min and the ‘Left-back-Walker’ combination that Spurs formed at the time was one of the best wing-back duos in the Premier League (PL).

He headed to City for the 2017-18 season. As the year progressed, the title ambitions grew, and Walker joined forces with Pep Guardiola to address them.

It worked. Walker was well established under Guardiola. In addition to the PL title, he lifted the English FA Cup, the EFL Cup, and countless other trophies, and last season he won the long-awaited UEFA Champions League (UCL), becoming only the second English team to win the treble since Manchester United in 1998-99.

This summer, he was linked with a move to Bayern Munich. The Bavarians, looking to bolster their defense, pushed for his signature and Walker responded positively to the move. 먹튀검증

However, the deal fell through and Walker decided to stay at City. Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Walker revealed his reasons: “I think there is something special about this team. We put the perfect finishing touches on last season by lifting the UCL trophy, which was the only one we didn’t have. I was hoping to do it again. The players were still hungry for results and wanted to achieve something special again this season. I didn’t want to miss out on that experience, which is why I decided to stay with the team.”
