‘Kim Hyung-jin-Laercio back-to-back goals’ Anyang stops Gimcheon dominance, ‘jumps from 5th to 2nd’

FC Anyang reignites the race for the top spot with a win over leader Gimcheon Sangmu.

Anyang scored two second-half goals to win 2-0 at home against Gimcheon in the 24th round of the Hana OneQ K League 2 2023 at Anyang Sports Complex at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 31.

With the win, Anyang’s first in three games, the club moved up to second place with 38 points (11 wins, five draws and six losses). Four points behind leader Gimcheon (42). Anyang (38 goals) is tied on points with Gyeongnam FC (37) and Busan I-Park (30), but is ahead on goal difference.

Gimcheon maintained its lead despite the loss. However, they fell to 42 points (13 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses), allowing Anyang, Gyeongnam FC, and Busan I-Park (over 38) to catch up. With a win, Gimcheon could have extended its lead over the second-place team to seven points, but it was not to be.

Anyang, led by Lee Woo-hyung, started Bruno up front, with Ryu Seung-woo and Choi Sung-beom in the second line and Kim Dong-jin and Joo Hyun-woo on the flanks. Hwang Ki-wook and Moon Sung-woo occupied the midfield, while Kim Hyung-jin, Lee Chang-yong, and Park Jong-hyun formed the back three. Park Sung-soo wore the goalkeeping gloves.

Jeong Jung-yong’s Gimcheon Sangmu had Lee Jun-seok, Cho Young-wook, and Kim Hyun-wook in the attacking line and Won Doo-jae, Kim Jin-gyu, and Kang Hyun-mook in the midfield. Park Min-gyu, Kim Jae-woo, Lee Sang-min, and Kim Tae-hyun defended the back four, with Shin Song-hoon in goal.

Gimcheon started the game with Lee Jun-seok, Kim Hyun-wook, and Kim Jin-gyu, while Anyang tried to counterattack with Bruno, Hwang Ki-wook, and Moon Sung-woo.

Anyang made an early change in the 25th minute by removing Choi Sung-bum and Moon Sung-woo and introducing Yago and Lee Dong-soo. Gimcheon also showed their will to win by dropping Kim Hyun-wook and introducing Choi Byung-chan. However, the first half remained scoreless as both teams failed to create any decisive moments.

Four minutes into the second half, Anyang took the lead. Bruno collected a forward pass from Yago and beat one defender in front of the box before firing a left-footed mid-range shot. However, the goal was disallowed after a video assistant referee (VAR) ruled him offside.

Two minutes later, Gimcheon had the decisive chance. On a free kick in the sixth minute of the second half, the ball deflected off a defender and fell to Lee Jun-seok on the left side of the box. Lee struck a shot that bounced off the right post.

In the 15th minute of the second half, Anyang took the lead on a header by Kim Hyung-jin. Anyang won a free kick on the right side, and Joo Hyun-woo sent a cross to the front of the box, where the onrushing Kim Hyung-jin precisely headed it into the goal.Kim Hyung-jin scored his second goal of the season and Joo Hyun-woo picked up his sixth assist.

With momentum on their side, Anyang scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute through Brazilian Laercio. Laercio broke through the left side of the box and finished with a right-footed curler. Gimcheon pushed hard for an equalizer. Park Min-kyu threatened the Anyang goal with a free kick, but it was saved by Park Sung-soo. Gimcheon continued to take set-piece chances and had one in the eight minutes of added time, but could not find the back of the net.
